Taking an Info-Techno Sabbath

It is amazing how much technology has invaded our lives. We recently got a new computer from the Dell Outlet and it included a TV tuner. This allows me to record shows just like a Tivo or other DVR (we don't spend money on cable or satellite so we don't get these tools "free" from them).

Anyway, I have found myself waiting until after a show starts to begin watching it. This allows me to watch it on the computer and fast forward through those pesky commercials (when I become King all commercials will be outlawed...there will just be a periodic restroom break where soothing music is played). I also figured out that if I minimize the TV turner so it only takes up half of the screen space I can open a web browser on the other half. The result is I can watch a show and surf the net at the same time. Even though I wind up watching my selected show on a 5"x5" window the fact that I can multi-task makes it worth it.

On the other half of the screen I might be checking my e-mail, reading the paper or monitoring Facebook ...or possible all three with the tab based browsing available on the Firefox browser. How did I ever get along without these tools...

Unfortunately I have found that I feel out of touch when I watch TV on the main unit downstairs in the living room. Mary teases me that I have become a Facebook addict, but I think I have just become addicted to multi-tasking and Facebook is just a tool that lets me multi-task with many other people at the same time.

Regardless, that is not the point of this post. Earlier this morning I read a blog post about an "Info-Techno Sabbath" and I found it intriguing. I am not yet sure what I think about it, but I thought I would share the article with you folks to consider as well.

Enjoy...

Flight 1549 Landing in the Hudson

I just came across this animated video that overlays the path of Us Airways flight 1549 with the air traffic control communications. I thought I would share it with anyone that is interested..

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

In December I did a blog post about the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition show working on a home nearby (see link to previous blog post below). Well, this weekend is the air date for the show. It is on ABC. Check your local listings for channel and air time.

Crazy Weather...

It was 89.7 degrees at our house today. Yes, I said 89.7 degrees...on February 26th. The record high was 90 degrees set in 1917. I am definitely not ready for this...

The Credit Crisis Explained

A blog I regularly read had this video explaining the current credit crisis. I thought it did a great job of making it easy to understand. It takes about 11 minutes to watch, but you will better understand this mess after watching it.
