One Last Cast

For West Texas man who practically lived on the water, there was no better hearse than his fishing boat.

Christians Have No Reason to Fear Public Education

Since we do not have children we have never been put in the position of having to decide between the public, private or home-school education choices. My gut has always told me that it would be better to go through the public system, but that is an easy thing to say when I am not sending my child out the door. This morning I read an article by Jim Evans (Pastor, FBC Auburn, AL) that puts forth the argument that parents should not retreat from the public school system. There are quite a few good points in the article, but I thought this one explained my gut instinct pretty well:

"There is a case to be made, however, for Christians keeping their children in public schools and working for the success of public education. We have no reason to fear public education. The Christian faith can compete with any other truth claim. But it is not the school's place to teach the faith; that job belongs to the church."

Do understand that this is not meant as a judgment on anyone that made a different choice. As I said, I have never been faced with the decision so I realize that my opinion carries very little weight.

How You Bury A Baptist Deacon Who Loved Fishing

Funeral was May 4, 2009 in Knox City, Texas. The hearse stopped on the way to the cemetery and the coffin was transferred to the deceased's favorite boat for the remainder of the journey. Pictures were encouraged by this family who obviously subscribes to the belief of celebrating one's life and not grieving one's death.

Cardboard Testimonies

During a recent worship service we incorporated our Celebrate Recovery group to really bring reality into worship. This video really doesn't do the whole experience justice, people LOVED seeing and encouraging the people on stage.

Dom DeLuise (August 1, 1933 – May 4, 2009)

I remember him from many of the movies of my teen years. These included such high quality moving pictures as Blazing Saddles, The Cannonball Run and Smokey and the Bandit II.

Washington's crossing of the Delaware River

Most Americans have seen photos of the painting below, but I had no grasp of its actual size. Click on the image to see photos of the team that is restoring the frame.
