Happy 100th Birthday Fort Worth Zoo

The Fort Worth Zoo turns 100 this year, and it’s marking the occasion with a weeks-long celebration.

Yes, the zoo has been around for a century, though it wasn’t always a sprawling park full of exotic species and natural habitats. The zoo started with a handful of carnival animals in 1909. They all drowned in a flood the next year, and the city almost shut the zoo down just a few years later. But despite its rocky start, the zoo has thrived for 10 decades now and is consistently ranked among the finest in the nation.
